There is dog feces in my vegetable garden, can I still use the dirt to grow vegetables?
Q. I want to plant a garden in my backyard and I have recently found out that my neighbor has a routine of taking his dog into my backyard to do his duty and not cleaning it up! I know dog manure can carry parasites that can effect humans and I need to know if I can still use the dirt to grow vegetables. There isn't much noticeable dog manure but I have seen some.

A. Dog poop is never a recommended animal manure. Even if the poop has decomposed, it still can contaminate vegetables. Humans can then fall sick after consuming the contaminated vegetables. It would be better if you use fresh dirt in a raised bed garden. This way you'll have more control over your soil. Checkout the following web page for more on raised bed gardening:

dog feces eating - How to stop dog feces eating behavior?
Q. My dog will not stop eating other dogs' feces. As i know eating feces is normal for some dogs, but it's disgusting isn't it. Any idea how to stop dog feces eating behavior?
Asked by Nursalinda - Tue Jun 15 17:07:23 2010 - Dogs - 4 Answers - Comments
A. In order to stop dog feces eating, you need to clean you dog feces quickly. You can also add pepper in the feces, the taste of which the dogs will never like. You should feed the animal at proper time. The dog should never be allowed to be hungry. The hunger may prompt the dog to eat the feces. It is better to feed the dog 3 to 4 times a day, in small quantities instead of feeding heavy food for 2 times. This will reduce the output of the dog. Some dogs may have excessive hunger which is due to insufficiency of exocrine pancreas. Those dogs will eat anything and everything including its own feces. What can you get from dog feces?
Q. My sister in laws have 2 dog and won't get rid of them. The dogs have never been trained and run around jumping on everything. They go to the bathroom everywhere! They go on the furniture and beds. They chew up everything as well. There is a 2 month old baby in their house and I am worried about her getting sick from feces being all over.
Asked by Mrs. V - Mon Jan 12 18:16:37 2009 - Infectious Diseases - 8 Answers - Comments
A. You have every right to be concerned, if your description of the situation is accurate then there are health hazards present for the infant residing there. Animal feces (including K-9) carries very nasty bacteria, parasites, and viruses. This situation should be confronted immediately for the sake of the child. Be gentle about it, as I am sure your sister-in-law will be less than thrilled about your opinion at first, but pursue it none-the-less. Unsanitary conditions are unsafe, however, if your sister-in-law is taking the needed precautions to maintain a clean home, and reduce the risk of contamination, then you may not have a leg to stand on. Bottom line, if she keeps her home clean and sanitary by picking up the feces and disinfecting… [cont.]

What could cause Dog feces to turn black?
Q. I'm a new pet owner, and have recently noticed that my dog's feces have been black. I phoned our local veterinarian, and they said it shouldn't be a problem. On the internet, some websites say one cause is blood in the intestinal track? This morning everything is starting to get back to normal as far as color goes, but I'm still worried. What should I do?
Asked by - Wed Sep 1 08:41:19 2010 - Dogs - 6 Answers - Comments
A. If the vet said no problem then don't worry. If his feces are still black in a 3-4 days then make sure you ring him again just to check!

How do you get rid of dog urine/feces smell from dirt?
Q. I just purchased a home that has a large room-sized patch of dirt and some weeds. The previous owner must've had dogs that went in that area because when I wet the area it smells strong of dog urine/feces. I tried a product called Yard & Odor Cleaner to no avail.
Asked by datkwikracer - Tue Jul 28 22:27:01 2009 - Dogs - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Cutting the weeds close to the ground would help. Tilling the area up and breaking up the soil would help.

Is there anything to spray on dog feces to disintegrate it?

A. I don't blame you for not wanting to pick it up (there isn't anything like that) but heres a thought if you don't want to do it- Any neighborhood kids? Ask them to do it and pay them a decent fee or provide them with pizza and pop afterwards for lunch (have them wash their hands first! haha!)

How do I get a female dog to stop eating her feces?
Q. It's my sister's dog, and the dog is just under 1 year old. They have an older female dog, and the puppy is eating the older dog's feces. They tried changing the pup's food (because she was always starving), also tried adding powder to the older dog's food that the vet said would turn the pup off the taste. So far neither has worked. Any ideas?

A. Pineapple works! Try adding bits of pineapple to the puppies' food. It also might be because she is eating her food to fast, and the food isn't digesting. Try feeding her/him a little bit of food at a time, and then she/he will learn to eat slower. It also takes patience. Good luck!

Can you flush dog feces(chiwaua) down the toilet?
Q. My friends plumbing failed and the landlord's plumber says that the dog feces caused the pipes to break, but also said that the pipe's are real old. The plumber said that you shouldn't flush dog feces down the toilet. Is this true?

A. Sounds like "crap" to me! Generations of people have been doing this for years. Also: It reduces the carbon imprint of your pet. Not using potty pads or plastic pick up bags is going green! By just flushing the waste down the toliet u, not only have you picked up after your dog, but your yard (or a neighbor's yard) isn't full of little land mines, lol. All that said, I do believe everyone should take pick up bags on walks, anywhere, & pick up after your dog.

How do you remove old dog feces from carpet?
Q. I have a rental unit and the tenants just moved and I found out they let their dog defecate all over the carpet. Now there are piles of old, hard dog feces in the carpet. Any ideas would be great!
Asked by - Fri Jun 19 16:24:48 2009 - Dogs - 8 Answers - Comments
A. If you own the unit you should have made the tennants sign a contract making them pay for any damages after they leave... which means THEY have to pay for replacing or steam cleaning of the carpet. If you have just moved into the apartment contact your landlord, they should have cleaned the carpet or replaced it before you moved in.

A dog with a physical problem that causes excessive hunger, pain, or other sensations may resort to eating feces. If your adult dog who has not previously had this habit suddenly develops it, take the dog to your veterinarian for a check-up. 2. A dog who is not getting enough to eat or is going too long between meals may eat feces. Your veterinarian can help you evaluate the dog's weight and can suggest a feeding schedule and amount.
